Cervical encerclage

At times when the woman’s cervix is weak, she is more likely to have a baby early due to cervix shortening or opens too early. In order to avoid this condition doctors recommend a cervical cerclage. A cerclage is used to prevent such early conditions and changes to the cervix. A baby develops well in the uterus with a closed cervix until the baby age reaches to 37-38 weeks.

Any abnormalities may lead to the cervical cerclage procedure in which the cervix is sewn during pregnancy as there is a risk of it opening under the pressure of growing pregnancy.
